The Sandlot – Summer Movie Night

When I think of summer movies, The Sandlot is at the very top of the list. It’s nostalgic, funny, and honestly just hits different on a warm summer night when the kids are running around outside and the days feel long. So this year, I’m planning a Sandlot-themed move night to kick off summer. I’m so excited that I had to share! This could scale up into a party pretty easily, but we’re just doing a family night this time.

Here’s exactly how I’m setting it up.

The Movie

We watched The Sandlot as soon as it started getting dark. It’s streamable on Prime Video, Disney+, and AppleTV, or you can buy it on DVD or BluRay if you still have a player. You can watch it outside with a projector if you want, but we’ve also done this exact same setup inside on the couch and it still feels special.

The Food (Easy + On Theme)

You don’t need a full concession stand. A few baseball-style snacks are plenty.

We’re doing:

  • Hot dogs (easy dinner, zero complaints)
  • Popcorn
  • Cracker Jacks and peanuts
  • Popsicles, ice cream, or snow cones (we have this machine and it’s a huge hit)

Some other options could include corn chips + nacho cheese, soft pretzels, or cotton candy if you really want to go all out!

You can set everything out on the counter (or better yet – a folding table outside) and let everyone grab what they want.

Simple Touches That Make It Feel Special

A few small details make the night feel intentional without adding work.

Ideas:

  • Paper trays or baskets for food
  • Red-and-white checkered napkins/table covers
  • Baseball caps or tees if your kids already have them

None of this is required! Just adds to the vibes

Summer Fun Before or After the Movie

Before the movie, we let the kids:

  • Play catch
  • Run around barefoot
  • Swing a bat in the yard

Nothing structured, just outdoor fun that helps get wiggles out.

Make It Your Own

If baseball isn’t your thing, you can still do a summer-themed movie night with:

  • A different sports movie
  • A classic summer film
  • A favorite from your own childhood

The point isn’t the theme. It’s the tradition.
