Why the Owala FreeSip Is the Only Water Bottle My Tween and I Actually Agree On

If you’ve ever stood in the Target aisle debating yet another water bottle, you’re not alone. We’ve gone through dozens – too leaky, too bulky, too hard to clean. But this year, my tween daughter and I both fell in love with the Owala FreeSip. Here’s why it’s the only one we’ll be using for back to school.

What Makes the Owala FreeSip Different?

  • Sip or chug: The dual-function lid lets you sip from the built-in straw or tilt and swig. It’s perfect for kids who are picky or active, or moms who change their minds a lot (it’s me, hi).
  • Completely leak-proof (AND durable): It seals tight. My daughter throws hers in her backpack daily, drops it on the floor constantly, and we’ve had zero spills. I’m pretty sure she could drop-kick it across the yard and it would be fine. Her foot might suffer though.
  • Dishwasher safe: There are just 4 pieces total and it comes apart and goes back together in about 2.5 seconds.
  • Fits in cupholders: Even the 24oz size fits snugly in a car cupholder, so we use it on the go too. We do have a larger 30 oz one which is also great, but really doesn’t fit in any of our cupholders, so be aware of that.

Tween-Approved Colors

  • Shy Marshmallow – perfect if you love neutrals like my tween
  • Foggy Tide – dark grey with aqua touches (this is the one I have)
  • Beach House – pretty pastels

These shades go fast, especially before school starts, so I recommend grabbing your favorite before it sells out:

They even have princess, Star Wars, Marvel, and Harry Potter-themed bottles!

Best Uses:

  • At school: My daughter says it’s the only water bottle she’s ever finished by lunchtime without spilling. She’s a germophobe too, so she likes that the mouth isn’t exposed to the air all the time.
  • At work: I use a FreeSip too. I love that I can sip during Zoom meetings without unscrewing a lid, and it keeps my water cold when I’m in the car or at a conference all day.
  • At home: The colors make them easy to keep track of (no more “Is this mine?” arguments).
  • Traveling: This is the BEST water bottle for travel since it’s leakproof, well-insulated, the mouthpiece is covered (less germs), AND it has a carry handle on the lid.

Where to Buy

You can usually find Owala at Target, but Amazon often has more color choices and faster shipping.

If you’re tired of leaky lids and picky kids, the Owala FreeSip might just be your new go-to. It’s cute, functional, and worth every penny!

Now, if you’re like me and love to have a fun beverage vessel for every season, I have a recommendation for you too – Swig Life. I have a sparkly purple MegaMug that I am obsessed with and use every day – think big straw cup with handle like those others that rhyme with Shmanley, but better. I love to pick a seasonal cup, mug, or koozie. How freaking cute is this watermelon one?!
