Easy DIY Bunny Cake for Easter (No Piping Skills Needed!)
Want to wow your family this Easter without needing bakery-level cake skills? This adorable bunny cake is surprisingly simple to decorate, and it’s a showstopper on any spring dessert table. I’ll walk you through exactly how I made it using store-bought cake and frosting, some easy fondant details, and a little creativity. Bonus: no piping required!
What You’ll Need:
Cake & Frosting:
- 6-inch round cake (homemade or store-bought)
- White buttercream frosting (I used store-bought)
Decorating Supplies:
- White fondant
- Pink fondant
- Black fondant
- Wooden skewers
- Knife or fondant tools
- Silicone baking mat or parchment paper
- Optional: corn starch or powdered sugar for rolling
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Bake or buy your cake I used two 6-inch cake rounds, stacked, and gave it a crumb coat (thin first layer of frosting) before chilling. Once set, I added a second coat of white buttercream.

2. Make the bunny ears Roll out white fondant and cut two large oval shapes. Then roll out pink fondant and cut smaller inner ovals. Gently press the pink onto the white. Insert a skewer into each ear.

If you want one ear to be flopped over, gently fold down the tip and let it dry over a rolling pin or utensil handle.

Let ears dry for a few hours or overnight so they hold their shape.
3. Make the bunny face Use black fondant to shape two closed eyes (like half-moons with lashes) and a simple nose and mouth shape. Roll small ropes and curve them into place.

4. Make the paws Roll two white fondant balls and flatten slightly. Use a knife to press in toe lines for each paw.
5. Assemble the cake Place the ears into the top of the cake. Press the eyes, nose, and mouth gently into the front. Add the paws at the base.

Tips:
- If you’re short on time, you can use marshmallows or candy eyes instead of fondant.
- Chill your cake well before decorating so the fondant sticks more easily.
